FC Goa had a comfortable ten-day layoff from their last match in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2018-19 and will now be hoping to avoid complacency when they visit the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium to take on FC Pune City. In fourth place and with an attacker like Ferran Corominas within their team, the Gaurs will hardly be fearful of their chances of making the playoffs.

Ahead of the fixture, indiansuperleague.com caught up for an exclusive interview with Gaurs midfielder, Hugo Boumous. Here are a few excerpts from the same.

Which position are you most comfortable in?

The truth is that for me, the most important thing is to be on the pitch. In 10 or in the middle or as a winger, in any way, I want to be on the pitch, this is the most important. I think my best position is to be a number 10 but now the coach chose to put me as a winger as a tactic to have a stronger midfield with Edu Bedia, Ahmed Jahouh and Lenny Rodrigues and put me free on the pitch and closer to Corominas.

Thoughts on head coach Sergio Lobera’s philosophy.

It’s a bit of a Spanish philosophy with a lot of passing, a lot of attacks, a lot of animation and fancy football, a bit like FC Barcelona. He comes from there so this is a little bit of what he tries with what we do, and you know the best defense for a team is to attack and score goals and this what we’re doing and trying to do. So, we do a lot of passing, everyone trying to attack and score the highest number of goals possible and we have a very good goal-scorer in Coro. So, this facilitates us.

What is FC Goa’s X-factor for the match against FC Pune City?

I think it will be that we are very strong, we play all together like a real team and if we respect our style of football; trying to attack, play together, a lot of passing and at the same time defend strongly, we can get the three points.
