Aaron Hughes has led the Kerala Blasters FC defence brilliantly since his return from national duty for Northern Ireland. The veteran defender has been one of the reasons behind the Blasters getting four points their last two matches, a win against Mumbai City FC and draw against FC Pune City. Hughes spoke to indiansuperleague.com ahead of his team’s match against FC Goa at Fatorda’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday and shared his thoughts on the clash. Here are the excerpts from the interview.Aaron, second consecutive away game for you, so is fatigue going to be a factor? No, we have got plenty of time to recover so I don’t think that will be a factor and if you look at the last match we had less time to recover and we did okay and this time we have got more time to recover, so we are well rested.Only two goals so far this season, do you think you need to improve in the scoring department? We know that if we keep creating chances the goal will come and we just got to keep working and that is the nature of the game so I don’t think it is an issue we got to worry about and also because we know that we have the quality in the side to score a few more goals. Hopefully, we will and I guess that will make people stop talking about this.FC Goa are known to play attacking football, so do you have any specific game plan for the match? We’ll just continue what we have been doing and that is trying to keep good shape, trying to keep working hard and keep defending from the front as they say, and hopefully we can build on that. What can we expect from this match? Do you think you will get maximum points?Well, that’s the aim but then it’s a very tight and competitive league and there is not a massive difference between the teams and it can just come down to the day like who copes with the conditions better, who is in better form, a little bit of luck or some refereeing decisions or anything can decide the game on the day and we expect ourselves to work as hard as we can and do what we have talked about during training.
