A game with just a goal in it, the encounter between Mumbai City FC and Chennaiyin FC in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Mumbai Football Arena was a close one. In the end, it was a penalty scored by Achilles Emana that gave the Islanders their second win of the season. After the match, indiansuperleague.com spoke to Chennaiyin captain, Henrique Sereno for his thoughts. Here are the excerpts.
What was your initial reaction to the penalty that was given?
From my point of view, it was not a penalty. But, it happens in football. Today the referee wasn’t on our side, and unfortunately for us, Mumbai won a penalty. After that, we had many chances, but we could not score. I think it was unfair, but we are ready for the next game, and I hope that we win it.
Jeje (Lalpekhlua) scored a brace in the last game, so any thoughts about the changes in the starting XI where he didn’t feature?
This is a league, and it is impossible for players to play in every game, especially when you have matches in two days. There is no time to rest, and then you have to travel, so all players in our side were tired, which is normal. The head coach decided to rest some players, and Jeje will definitely score in the next match.
You travel to Bengaluru in the next game. What are your thoughts on things that can be changed from today’s game?
I don’t know, we will see. But, for sure, we are going to leave everything on the pitch like today, and we are going to win.
