Cedric Hengbart is one of the reasons behind Kerala Blasters’ resurrection in the 2016 Hero Indian Super League. The Blasters started their campaign off on the wrong foot with defeats against NorthEast United FC and Atlético de Kolkata but with a draw against Delhi Dynamos FC and a win against Mumbai City FC, they have brought themselves back on track. The 36-year-old French defender, who has started all of Kerala’s four matches this season, spoke to indiansuperleague.com ahead of his team’s clash against hosts FC Pune City on Monday. Here are the excerpts from the interview. You have come back to Kerala Blasters after one year away from the team and you have helped the team reach the final before. Are you looking to do the same again?I’m here to put all my experience to help develop the young players, and share my experience of the first season here. For the second season, I was with NorthEast but this season I know the players here, so it’s easy for me.You personally have had a good, solid performance already this season. Is there a secret behind it and how do you plan to maintain it?I don’t know, I try to give my 100% every match, every match I play for the team and not for myself. So if I play, it’s better for the team, hence I just try my best. What are the best attributes of your team?I think it is how we defend, we have only conceded two goals so far this season and both goals were unlucky so if we don’t concede goals it gives us a better chance in attack as well. You are playing FC Pune City tomorrow in Balewadi. How are you planning to take three points from this match? It is difficult, we will try our best to keep a clean sheet again and will be looking to score one or two goals to win the game.
