Gomes: Costa’s goal was world-class

Albino Gomes played his part in earning Mumbai City FC a point in their Hero Indian Super League 2016 fixture against Chennaiyin FC that ended 1-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday. Chennai took the lead early in the second half through Jeje Lalpekhlua but a wonder goal by Leo Costa in the 88th minute made it all square at full-time. The 22-year-old goalkeeper made five saves for Mumbai over the course of the 90 minutes, including a crucial one to deny Dudu. Gomes spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the game and shared his thoughts on the draw. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

1-1 on the night, what are your thoughts on the game?

I didn’t think I was going to play today but due to some problem [Roberto Volpato’s injury] I got the opportunity to play. It was a good game, I think we should have got the victory though.

Can you describe the feeling after Leo Costa’s goal?

It was a world-class goal. It was impossible for the keeper to save, it was a good goal.

Chennaiyin created a lot of chances today but you were also equal to the task. What’s the secret behind your performance?

Nothing special, just that practice pays off. I just hope I keep getting more games and I will be able to do even better.

Mumbai have been in great form this year, and now you go to NorthEast United FC. What is your plan for that game?

We will just look to get the victory and get three points, nothing else.
