Dudu Omagbemi is ready for his third season of the Hero Indian Super League, this time with defending champions Chennaiyin FC having previously represented FC Pune City and FC Goa in Hero ISL 2014 and Hero ISL 2015 respectively. The Nigerian striker in all has played 19 Hero ISL games and has hit the back of the net seven times, including a hat-trick for the Gaurs last season. The 28-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com ahead of his side’s opener against 2014 winners Atlético de Kolkata at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium on Sunday, and discussed a variety of subjects. Here are the excerpts from the interview. What are your thoughts going into the third season of the Hero ISL?Well, I think the league is getting tougher day by day with new players coming in, and I think this season is going to be the most difficult season.Another new team this year for you. Do you think it’s going to be a challenge?Playing for every team is challenging… This is a new team for me with a lot of quality players and we are the defending champions. But I am still not a champion with them and I am working hard on that. What sets Chennaiyin apart from the previous two teams you have played for?Well, it has been great but I haven’t seen much difference with the Indian players. I don’t see much difference between the teams either. The only difference I see is that I am playing for Chennaiyin now who are the champions and playing for them is something really great. What are your thoughts on the match against ATK?They were good last year, fantastic team, played good last year. I don’t know much about them this year and I don’t want to know because we are here to get the three points and that’s what we are going to do tomorrow.Marco Materazzi has been a legend of the game. How has it been training under him?He is a World Cup winner, played in the top league in Italy. He is a champion and has tremendous experience about this league and knows much better about the other teams.Have you set any personal goals for yourself this season? For me personally I want to be a champion, want to win the trophy with Chennaiyin, score a lot of goals and be happy and make my family happy.
