Sameegh Doutie is turning out to be an exceptional performer for Atlético de Kolkata. He is one man who should be credited with the defending champions’ revival in the 2015 Hero Indian Super League, following three successive defeats at one stage. The South African midfielder scored twice and provided one assist in his team’s 4-0 win over FC Goa at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday evening, helping the hosts put one foot in the semis. In his eight appearances so far, he has scored thrice and provided five assists and that tells you what a phenomenal player he has been for ATK. The 26-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the win and expressed his joy. Here are the excerpts from the interview.A 4-0 win against the table-toppers, you must be delighted…Of course. Everyone in our dressing room knew how important this game was since they were on top of us and also had a game in hand. We came out today, listened to the coach’s gameplan, everyone was focused. What do you have to say about ATK being in pole position now?We have two big games coming up and have to keep our heads in the game. Staying level-headed is important. We haven’t even reached the semi-finals yet. We have to keep working and keep winning."We have to keep working and keep winning."Sameegh DoutieWhat would you like to say about your own performances?Yeah, I mean, I’ll always contribute to the team when I can. I’m the kind of player who’d rather see a smile on each team-mate’s face than mine.Your post-goal celebratory antics were quite the entertainment for the Kolkata crowds…This goes back to the days when I was kid, played in the sands with my friends. It used to be easy to do it on a steep surface. You practice and practice and then eventually you do it without the sand!
