Delhi Dynamos FC held Chennaiyin FC to a 2 – 2 draw in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. The opening goal for the Lions was scored by David Ngaihte, who met Nandhakumar Sekar’s cross with a superb diving header to head the ball home in the 24th minute. The 28-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com post the match and shared his thoughts regarding the same. Here are the excerpts.

What do you think of Chennaiyin FC’s comeback?

Chennai is a very good side. They are on the top of the table and everyone knows that. They have been playing good football, good attacking football. They were well disciplined in all departments, but we did pretty well, especially in the first half where we created many chances. We are unlucky, but we are happy with at least one point because finally, we were able to break our losing streak. So we’re looking forward to the next match that is in a few days.

How important was it to score the first goal?

I always say that it’s important to score the first goal because that’s when we can put maximum pressure and build momentum in the team. So, it’s always delightful to score goals because that’s the most important thing. Without goals, you can’t win matches but unfortunately, it ended in a draw. But we are happy with the one point and are looking forward to scoring more goals in the coming matches.

How does it feel playing alongside Nandhakumar Sekar?

Nandhakumar is a fantastic player and we have more, like (Lallianzuala) Chhangte, Romeo (Fernandes) and Seityasen Singh. So, I am really looking forward to combining more and create more goal-scoring chances, especially with the youngsters. I am also looking forward to winning the upcoming matches.

What do you think of Delhi’s latest signing, goalkeeper Xabier Iruetaguena?

We have great goalkeepers in Arnab Das Sharma and Sukhdev Patil. They are great players but Xabier is highly experienced. The kind of experience that he brought in the team, it’s very important for us and now we are more confident about the backline as it’s become stronger. So, I think that is a good sign for us. We are looking forward to him performing better. This was his first match and he needs to adjust to this climate and the ground conditions of the country. So I’m hoping that he will keep up with his level of play.

What are your thoughts on the next match against Kerala Blasters FC?

Kerala are struggling like us but even they are a good side. They have got international and Indian players who represent the country, so it will be a game of great challenge. Let’s see what happens because it’s only after two days.
