Having played a starring role in the heart of the Chennaiyin FC defence as they became the first side to notch an away win in this year’s Hero Indian Super League (ISL), Bernard Mendy was in a jubilant mood after the match. www.indiansuperleague.com caught up with the French defender for a quick interview:Congratulations on the win, you must be pleased?Yes! Very happy.Considering Chennai were one of the last teams in the tournament, what were the preparations that went into this match and how good a feeling is it right now? It’s true – the owner bought the club late, we came late for training, but we worked hard to keep focus for the first game. And we did, today. Everybody played well, hard, and with heart, so that’s good. You’ve played in countries like France and England. How difficult is it to adjust to the weather conditions here?I’m African, and even for me it’s a little hot. But you need to focus. It’s the same for everybody. We worked hard, and we did well today. How do you compare the football in France to India? For me, the best was England, and then France. But the ISL is a good league. You’re traditionally a right-back. But you played centre-back today?Yeah, I played at centre-back today. What did you think; did I play well? (Yes). Thank you. Everybody played well today.
