Jamshedpur FC succumbed to their first loss of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur against FC Pune City on Sunday. Having arguably the best defensive unit in the league, the hosts conceded for the first time ever through Adil Khan’s side-footer. After the intensely-fought match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Jamshedpur’s Andre Bikey, who put up a solid display but could not prevent the goal. Here are the excerpts.
It was a tough game tonight, so what are your thoughts on the match?
It was a good game and a good battle, but we were unlucky. But that’s football! You have to take it on and keep going. Still, a long way to go!
Talk us through the moment when the first goal was scored by Adil?
That happens in a game. One shot, one goal. That is football. You can’t be thinking that if we were in position, we could have got the ball out. Their player was present and he scored. We have to keep going, get our heads up and move forward.
This was the first game where you conceded after four clean sheets. Does that mean something to the team?
No nothing like that because this is football. When you are strong at the back, anything can happen. When you get a clean sheet, you’re happy cause it’s a job well done. But sometimes you concede and you can’t do much. From now we have to forget the past, think about the next game and keep going.
Before the game, your head coach Steve Coppell said that Pune have the best strikers in the league, so how difficult was it to play against them?
They are good players and you have to respect that but not fear them. That’s football! You have to respect Pune, but at the same time, you have your strength. We had chances, but we did not put the ball in the net and that made the difference. Goals make the difference. We just have to forget the rest, move ahead and see what happens in the next game.
