Chennaiyin FC co-owner Abhishek Bachchan was in attendance as his team beat FC Pune City 2-0 in front of almost 20,000 spectators at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday evening. With the win, the defending champions climbed to fifth in the standings and the Bollywood star was pleased not a little with his team’s return to winning ways, their first win in six games. He spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the match and couldn’t hide his joy at his team’s brilliant showing on the night. Here are the excerpts from the interview.We are in the final leg of the league stage. How do you feel the team has shaped up this season?I think we have had a bit of a rocky road so far. Today’s win was much needed for the confidence of the boys because every team needs to believe in themselves and that’s where we were beginning to falter. Today’s win was a solid performance by the boys. I’m very happy because they have the talent to go all the way and we have a cohesive team that has the opportunity and talent to win. Today’s game is going to be a confidence-booster but there is still a long way to go. We have to win another 3-4 games against great teams, it’s going to be tough. It’s a tight table, so we will hope for the best.You are presently fifth in the table. Do you think you can keep this momentum and reach the semis?We hope so, we pray. We did it last season, we came back from 8th position. We have to do it again this year for our fans, who have been immense. The belief they’ve had in us despite the rough patch we’ve had and supported us.
