ATK FC lifted the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 title at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Saturday after trumping Chennaiyin FC 3-1 in the final. With the match being played behind closed doors as a precautionary measure against the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, there may not have been a boisterous crowd present in the stands to witness history being scripted, but fans still had the opportunity to make their cheers heard via a unique medium – Twitter Confetti.
The initiative, organized by the Hero ISL and Twitter, invited fans to send in their special messages for their team and players through tweets.
The #HeroISL Final is fast approaching, and your heartfelt tweets stand a chance to be printed out into physical confetti during the trophy presentation 🎊

Disappointing for @CabCricket so close and yet again not crossing the line. At least let @ATKFC win the @IndSuperLeague tomorrow and make it a double with @Mohun_Bagan #TrueLove

🏆🏆🔜🏆
Fond memories of finals from yesteryears were also tweeted out to add to the nostalgia and passion involving the season's biggest match.
This ISL final will be a strange one. It’s at Fatorda and there’s no FC Goa, no fans, quite unlike 2015, a game I’ll never forget. Fans queued up overnight outside stadium. Some bought tickets for 5 times the price!#Indianfootball #TrueLove #Finale #ISL

Selected tweets were printed out into physical confetti which erupted, just like fans would, the moment the winning team on the night lifted the Hero ISL trophy.
An enthralling #HeroISLFinal indeed, wasn't it? @Deb_spojourno #TrueLove pic.twitter.com/BrlVJ5UTpX

While the initiative was designed before the decision to keep the final behind closed doors was taken officially, the circumstances on the night made it even more special for the players, who wholeheartedly appreciated the gesture and even proceeded to read the fan tweets out for the camera.
