Mumbai City FC produced a performance of yesteryear as they came back from 0-2 down to beat Chennaiyin FC 6-2 at the Marina Arena in Chennai on Saturday.

The win wasn’t just a display of clean, free-flowing attacking football from the Islanders, but a set a platform for records and milestones.

Alberto Noguera’s goal to put Mumbai City FC 5-2 up on the night was the 2000th goal scored in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) history and it was only apt that the milestone was achieved in a game which was a great advert for the Hero ISL and the endeavours of the teams playing in it to entertain the crowds with some eye-catching football.

Noguera thus thrust himself into elite company of goalscorers who had the honour to score the landmark goals in Hero ISL history.

The Hero ISL 2022-23 season isn’t producing goals at the same rate as the previous campaign but the game between Mumbai City FC and Chennaiyin FC might just be the trigger for teams to express themselves a bit more and get among the goals.
