The Hero Indian Super League quickly became one of the highest-attended and most-watched football leagues in the world, captivating audiences in India and across the globe. A landmark moment came in Match 42 of the league phase, when NorthEast United FC hosted Chennaiyin FC. Ankita Devi became the one millionth fan to walk through the gates across the eight ISL venues when she attended the November 27 fixture at NorthEast’s home ground, the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. It was the law student’s first live game, after she had followed the fortunes of her team on television throughout the season. NorthEast co-owner and Bollywood star John Abraham presented Devi with an autographed football, and the lucky fan watched the match sitting alongside Abraham and Chennaiyin co-owner and actor Abhishek Bachchan. The Indian Super League would end up finishing as the fourth-highest attended league in the world.
