Hyderabad FC sting FC Goa
FC Goa dropped crucial points in their quest to close the gap with leaders Mohun Bagan SG as they were held to a draw by Hyderabad FC at home.
Despite dominating the first half, the Gaurs found themselves in a more open contest in the second half when both sides were reduced to 10 men. As the game progressed, FC Goa faced mounting pressure, which culminated in a dramatic ending. Substitute Allan Paulista struck the post before turning his back to goal, swiveling, and slotting the ball into the bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Hrithik Tiwari helpless.
This late equalizer marked the second time in three games that Hyderabad FC scored in the dying moments to secure a crucial point. Despite extending their winless run to eight games, Hyderabad FC proved they can still challenge the league’s best teams.
“I think this was one of the best comebacks in our ISL season,” said Hyderabad FC interim head coach Shameel Chembakath post-match.
Odisha FC’s new signings steal the spotlight
With 80 minutes on the clock and two goals down in an away game, Odisha FC seemed destined for another disheartening defeat at the Marina Arena. However, the introduction of Diego Mauricio sparked a stunning revival.
New signings Dorielton Nascimento and Rahul KP, making his debut, played pivotal roles in the comeback. Nascimento netted from close range, and in the dying moments, Rahul KP delivered an extraordinary bicycle kick to level the score, snatching a draw from the jaws of defeat.
While Odisha FC’s winless streak now extends to three games and their new signing firing, this spirited fightback will undoubtedly boost their confidence moving forward.
Incredible Mohammedan SC
Perhaps the biggest upset of the Matchweek was Mohammedan Sporting Club’s victory over Bengaluru FC.
Having been winless in their last 11 games and sitting at the bottom of the table, few expected Mohammedan SC to overcome a Bengaluru side unbeaten at home this season.
Despite creating better chances in the game, Bengaluru FC couldn’t find their finishing touch. And then at the death, Mirjalol Kasimov’s brilliant free-kick past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu stunned the home crowd at Sree Kanteerava Stadium. Sometimes, a moment of magic is all it takes to turn a game, and this match was a reminder of that.
With this result, Mohammedan SC lifted themselves off the bottom of the table and extended their unbeaten run to three games, showing they cannot be taken lightly.
Another derby double for the Mariners
The Kolkata Derby, played at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, had a more subdued atmosphere compared to the electrifying first derby at Salt Lake Stadium with only a few fans from both teams travelling from Kolkata Guwahati.
The result saw Mohun Bagan SG edging out East Bengal FC, with Jamie Maclaren’s early goal proving decisive. This win was less about flair and more about grit, but it achieved the desired outcome. With a derby double secured, bragging rights earned, and a significant lead at the top of the table, Mohun Bagan SG strengthened their pursuit of the Shield as Bengaluru FC and FC Goa dropped points.
This marks their fourth derby double over East Bengal FC and will be a standout highlight of their season, regardless of how it unfolds.
Jamshedpur FC’s statement win
Heading to Mumbai, Jamshedpur FC had recorded the fewest points away from home this season. Despite an opening-day win against FC Goa, they had failed to secure any more away victories since.
Facing Mumbai City FC, Jamshedpur FC rose to the occasion with a commanding performance. They scored not one but three goals, neutralised Mumbai City FC’s attack and kept a clean sheet to secure a well-deserved win.
This was only Jamshedpur’s second away win but their fifth victory in six games. Next, they face leaders Mohun Bagan SG, and given their unbeaten home record and current form, they’ll be confident in taking on the challenge.
