Gameweek 1 of the 2020-21 Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) season saw a number of new players take the field for their respective clubs. While Hyderabad FC dominate the Team of the Week with four players, NorthEast United FC are not far behind with three players. Chennaiyin FC boast two players, while FC Goa and Jamshedpur FC have one representative each. Let’s check out who all have made to the Team of the Week.

Subrata Paul (Hyderabad FC)

Experienced Hero ISL custodian Subrata Paul began his life in Hyderabad FC colours with a well-earned clean sheet. The goalkeeper made three saves for his side as Hyderabad went on to beat Odisha FC by a solitary goal. It was also Hyderabad’s first-ever clean sheet in league history.   

Akash Mishra (Hyderabad FC)

18-year-old Akash Mishra was a big threat against Odisha FC. The marauding left-back had a passing accuracy of 74% and also had 44 touches to his name. Defensively, he made two clearances and had one successful interception and one block. No wonder head coach Manuel Marquez showered so much praise on him after the match.

Odei Onaindia (Hyderabad FC)

Another debutant for Hyderabad FC, Spanish defender Odei Onaindia was at the heart of Hyderabad’s defence. He had a commanding passing accuracy of 89% and also made five clearances and two successful interceptions for his side as Hyderabad for the first time beat Odisha FC having lost both of their games last season against them.                

Dylan Fox (NorthEast United FC)

Australian defender Dylan Fox was instrumental to keeping Mumbai City FC’s strikers at bay. Fox had a passing accuracy of 95% and made four clearances as well during his 90 minutes but most importantly, it was he who won the match-winning penalty for the Highlanders.

Ashutosh Mehta (NorthEast United FC)

Ashutosh Mehta made a winning return to the Hero ISL with NorthEast United FC against his former club Mumbai City FC. The full-back made 10 clearances for his side, while three of his four interceptions were successful. Mehta also made five blocks and four tackles against the Islanders.

Khassa Camara (NorthEast United FC)

Another debutant in the Hero ISL, midfielder Khassa Camara was Hero of the Match in NorthEast United FC’s win over Mumbai City FC. Five of Camara’s 10 tackles were successful, while all of his three interceptions were on the mark as well. The midfielder also made two blocks against the Islanders.

Aitor Monroy (Jamshedpur FC)

Aitor Monroy was Jamshedpur’s best player on the pitch against Chennaiyin FC. The midfield general had a passing accuracy of 80% and made 70 touches besides creating two chances as well. Defensively, Monroy had four successful tackles out of nine besides making three successful interceptions as well.

Anirudh Thapa (Chennaiyin FC)

Chennaiyin FC began their 2020-21 Hero ISL season on a solid note with a 2-1 victory over Jamshedpur FC. Midfielder Anirudh Thapa scored Chennaiyin’s fastest goal in the Hero ISL after converting a cross from Esmael Goncalves in the first minute of the game itself. Hero of the Match Thapa also made three clearances and five tackles during his side’s victory.

Aridane Santana (Hyderabad FC)

Playing for Hyderabad FC against his former club Odisha FC, Aridane Santana scored from the spot to help his side to a much-deserved victory over the Bhubaneswar-based club. The forward also created one chance for his side and got two of his six shots on target.

Igor Angulo (FC Goa)

The Spanish striker was instrumental to his team’s fabulous comeback against Bengaluru FC after trailing 2-0. With two goals on his debut for the club, Hero-of-the-Match Igor Angulo also had three shots on target as the Gaurs shared the spoils with Carles Cuadrat’s side after a 2-2 draw.  

Esmael Goncalves (Chennaiyin FC)

Another forward who was key to his side’s victory was Guinea international Esmael Goncalves. The 29-year-old striker assisted Anirudh Thapa for the Marina Machans’ opening goal besides converting from the spot for Chennaiyin’s second goal of the match.
