The long wait is over. The Fans’ Team of the Season for Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 is at last out. Fans responded enthusiastically on social media after they were asked to pick their favourite players from a bunch of nominees from various positions on the field. Here we take a look at who all earned the honour and made the team of the season.

Amrinder Singh (goalkeeper)

Amrinder Singh was one of champions Mumbai City FC’s best players and finished the season with 10 clean sheets to his name. The 27-year-old goalkeeper missed out on the Golden Glove award narrowly. ATK Mohun Bagan’s Arindam Bhattacharja claimed it on account of higher minutes per goal conceded (108.95). Amrinder also caught the ball 84 times and made 35 clearances for the Islanders besides 61 saves.

Akash Mishra (left-back)

Akash Mishra was among the best young players this season. After featuring in the Emerging Team of the Season last week, he now features in the Team of the Season. He played every minute (1800) of football for Hyderabad FC and provided one assist for his team. Mishra also made 80 tackles, 55 interceptions, 48 clearances and 37 blocks for Manuel Marquez’s team.

Ivan Gonzalez (centre-back)

Ivan Gonzalez was a rock in FC Goa’s defence during their run to the semi-finals. The Spanish defender made 73 clearances, 56 tackles and 28 blocks for his side and scored two goals. He also provided an assist besides commanding a strong passing accuracy of 82.93%.

Mourtada Fall (centre-back)

The Senegalese centre-back has continued his fine performances in the Hero ISL, this season with Mumbai City FC. Making it to the Team of the Season for a second consecutive campaign, Mourtada Fall scored four goals during the Islanders’ run to the League Winners shield as well as the Hero ISL trophy. He also made 133 clearances and 50 tackles for his team.

Seriton Fernandes (right-back)

FC Goa right back Seriton Fernandes had another strong season in the Hero ISL for the Gaurs. The fullback was a strong defensive presence, with 48 tackles, 36 clearances, 26 interceptions and 21 blocks to his name. Seriton also had a formidable passing accuracy of 75.76% for his team.

Edu Bedia (central midfielder)

FC Goa skipper Edu Bedia had a strong campaign this season. He assisted three goals and completed 82 tackles, 36 clearances, 35 interceptions and 16 blocks for his team. Bedia also boasted a strong passing accuracy of 79.27%.

Cole Alexander (central midfielder)

Cole Alexander was one of Odisha FC's standout players this season, although the Bhubaneswar-based club finished at the bottom of the league table. The South African midfielder scored thrice in 15 matches for Odisha FC besides providing an assist. Alexander also made 99 tackles, 41 interceptions and 23 clearances for his team.

Facundo Pereyra (central attacking midfielder)

Kerala Blasters FC might not have had the best of seasons but there were some exciting players among their ranks and Facundo Pereyra was one of them. The Argentinian midfielder provided three assists for the Kochi-based outfit. Defensively, Pereyra made 25 tackles, 11 interceptions and 10 blocks for his team.

Jorge Ortiz (left winger)

Jorge Ortiz was a revelation for FC Goa during his first season with the club. The versatile midfielder scored six goals and provided one assist for his team. The Spaniard also helped out the Gaurs defence with 39 tackles and 14 blocks.

Manvir Singh (right winger)

One of the best Indian players of Hero ISL 2020-21, Manvir Singh was heavily involved in ATK Mohun Bagan's strong campaign that ended with a defeat in the final. Manvir finished his campaign with six goals and three assists to his name. He also helped out his defense with 51 tackles and 23 interceptions.

Roy Krishna (forward)

Roy Krishna's exploits with ATK Mohun Bagan this season were acknowledged with the Hero of the League award. His 14 goals were the joint most alongside Igor Angulo, and he also had the joint most assists at 8, tied with Alberto Noguera. The Fijian narrowly missed out on the Golden Boot award.
