FC Goa beat Jamshedpur FC 3 – 0 in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Sunday. Ferran Corominas bagged a brace while fellow Spaniard Manuel Lanzarote got the other as the win set them up for a semi-final showdown against Chennaiyin FC. Both sides also had their goalkeepers sent off in the match.

Jamshedpur suffered an early blow, when their custodian Subrata Paul came out of the box and handled a long ball before Corominas could touch it, earning a straight red. Lanzarote stepped up for the free-kick just outside the box, but hit it way over the target.

The 21st minute saw Lanzarote feed a pass to Corominas who fired a shot on target. But it was directed straight to Jamshedpur’s substitute keeper Sanjiban Ghosh, who gathered the ball. The Gaurs took the lead a minute before the half-hour mark when Hugo Boumous split the hosts’ defence with a lovely ball to Seriton Fernandes on the right flank. Fernandes then produced a quality cross that made for an easy tap-in for Corominas.

Five minutes before the break, Souvik Chakrabarti played Izu Azuka in on the right with his pass, and the Nigerian managed to cut in and get a shot on target which was straight to Goa keeper Naveen Kumar. That proved to be the last action from the half as Goa went into the break with a goal and man advantage.

It took just six minutes after the restart for Goa to double their advantage. Lanzarote chipped a ball to put Corominas through on goal. The Spaniard, who had timed his run to perfection, took a lovely touch to control it before blasting the ball into the goal.

The two again combined a minute after the hour mark. Lanzarote put in a crisp pass into the box for Corominas whose shot this time brought out a good save from Ghosh. Goa very nearly got a third a couple of minutes later. The ball found its way to Ahmed Jahouh from a corner and he took on the shot with a fierce first-time volley that rattled the crossbar.

The 69th minute, however, finally brought Goa’s third of the match. The ball came to Lanzarote at the edge of the box, and he had time to take a touch before picking his spot and firing the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.

With a quarter of an hour to go, parity was restored in terms of numbers on the pitch. In similar circumstances to Jamshedpur’s earlier incident, Kumar rushed out of his box and handled an overhead ball meant for substitute Kervens Belfort. The Gaurs’ keeper was sent off, but Trindade Goncalves hit the resulting free-kick off target as Goa secured a semi-final berth and a third-placed finish.
