Day 1 of the third edition of the Reliance Foundation Young Champs Final Selection Camp commenced on Wednesday after 80 children chosen from the Hero Indian Super League’s Club Scouting Festivals arrived at Beverly Park all through the previous day. The youngsters will now be looking to impress the coaches in the week-long camp and become the latest additions to the RF Young Champs programme. The next five days will see the aspiring talents take part in morning, afternoon and evening sessions. All morning and evening sessions will be conducted at Fr. Agnel Ground, whereas the auditorium at Beverly Park will be the venue for the afternoon sessions. Today’s morning session, which began at 7:30 am and lasted till 9 am, saw the youngsters participate in warm-ups, a 4-v-4 tournament, 4-v-1 and 7-v-3 drills as well as passing in Y-formation training. The hopefuls then returned to their base at Beverly Park for breakfast and rest before attending the afternoon session, which was aimed at informing them about the project and the programme for the upcoming week. This was followed by a 90-minute evening session, which began at 5:30 pm. The drills on display during the evening session were the same as those in the morning session with a few parents and local guardians in attendance.Commenting on how he feels about his son attending the RFYC final selection camp, a parent said: “I'm quite elated and happy that he has got selected because I believe there were quite a number of kids and he has been lucky out of the whole lot. One thing is that these children, who come from different parts of India, will be staying alone and it will be a very good experience as they will learn to adjust to each other.“Then they go out, play and prove themselves. The coaches are really good so the one week of training will be very helpful. Whether they get selected or not, this training will be helpful later on.”
