Mohun Bagan moved to the top of Hero I-League 2017 this past weekend after coming away with maximum points from the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana, Punjab on Saturday. The Mariners edged Minerva Punjab 1-0 with an 84th-minute strike from starman Sony Norde (Mumbai City FC). The Haitian showed blistering pace on the left flank before cutting into the penalty box and slotting beyond the goalkeeper.

Second-placed Aizawl FC kept pace with Mohun Bagan at the top of the table by beating Churchill Brothers 3-1 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco da Gama, Goa on Saturday. Kamo Bayi scored in the seventh and 46th minutes for Aizawl to give them a 2-0 lead before Anthony D'Souza pulled one back in the 69th minute to breathe life into the contest. Any lingering hope of a Churchill comeback was doused 15 minutes later when Laldunmawia found the back of the net to put the result beyond dispute.

Reigning champions Bengaluru FC’s maintained their positive run of results lately by registering a 2-0 win over Shillong Lajong at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Saturday. Sunil Chhetri (Mumbai City FC) created space for himself inside the penalty box before breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute for the visitors. Bengaluru secured the points four minutes into the second period through Harmanjot Singh Khabra, who headed home a cross with textbook precision to double his side’s lead.

Meanwhile, East Bengal’s recent poor form continued against DSK Shivajians at the Barasat District Sports Stadium on Sunday. The Red and Gold Brigade suffered a 1-0 loss to DSK with the solitary goal of the game coming in the 29th minute when Jerry Mawihmingthanga (NorthEast United FC) nodded in a header at far post.

Elsewhere, Mumbai FC stayed rooted to the bottom of the table following their 0-0 draw against Chennai City at the Cooperage Ground in Mumbai on Sunday. Mumbai and Minerva are now 10th and 9th on the table respectively with 12 points each. The summit of the table now sees Mohun Bagan on top with 33 points from 16 games,ahead of Aizawl on goal-difference. East Bengal and Bengaluru FC lie 3rd and 4th with 27 and 24 points respectively.
