Hero Indian Super League (ISL) newbies Jamshedpur FC have roped in former Atlético de Kolkata winger Sameehg Doutie for the 2017-18 season. The 28-year-old winger will bring the necessary firepower required for attacking and providing assists alike; and having played in the league over the past two editions, he will be no newcomer to the conditions. He also possesses a much-needed temperament required to flourish in a league which will be lengthier this time around. The Cape Town-born footballer proved to be a vital cog in the wheel for two-time champs Atlético de Kolkata, and indeed, Doutie played his part to the tee as they lifted the trophy last season.Over the two seasons that he plied his trade in the Hero ISL, Doutie mesmerised fans while also bewildering opponents with his quick feet and blistering bursts of pace. A large chunk of ATK’s attacks in each match came from the flank operated by the South African.Over the course of the 26 matches he played in the ISL, Doutie bagged five goals and amassed 10 assists. The fact that he is also deft with set-pieces makes him the complete package when it comes to attacking prowess.Add to that, his ability to produce quality finishing touches. Not many would forget the venomous volley that bulged the FC Goa net at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium last season. At Jamshedpur FC, Doutie also links up with another former ATK teammate of his in the form of Spanish defender José Luis Espinosa Arroyo a.k.a Tiri.Considering the fact that Jamshedpur FC are one of the two debutants in the ISL this year, Doutie is perhaps the ideal player to take up the responsibility of building attacks through the flanks and also chip in with vital goals. With the ability to draw defenders towards himself, he allows his fellow attackers to take dangerous positions in the penalty area. He also has the knack of outfoxing his opponents on his own, sometimes leaving more than one defender dead in their tracks.Jamshedpur FC head coach Steve Coppell is no stranger to Doutie’s capabilities with his former team Kerala Blasters having been at the receiving end of his trickery on multiple occasions last season. The duo should be able to chalk out the right methodologies of breaking into any opponents’ seemingly formidable backline. All said and done, Doutie now has a new squad to come up to speed with. Expectations are high from the winger, but only time will tell if he can deliver.
