Defending Champions ATK started their Hero Indian Super League title defence with a goalless draw against hosts Kerala Blasters FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Though Kerala’s line-up did look solid, it was ATK who dominated proceedings for majority of the 90 minutes. Stringing ATK’s play together in midfield was playmaker Eugeneson Lyngdoh who ensured he kept Kerala’s formidable defence under pressure with swift passes and long crosses. Post-match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with ATK’s top pick in the pre-season draft to get his views on the season opener.

Kochi is a tough place to visit. Are you happy with the draw?

Not a bad result. One point away. We had hoped we would get three points but then it was a tough game.

How hard was it out there, especially as this was the first game of the season?

Yes, it was hard work and as I said, it is very humid and obviously, it's tough to play.

How daunting is it to play in front of the Kerala crowd?

This is what every footballer wants you know, to play in front of such an amazing crowd. This is what we look forward to.

When you came into today's game, were you looking for one away point? Are you happy with the result?

Obviously, we came here looking for three points but at the end, we had to settle for a single point.

You seemed to tie things together in the midfield. Are you happy with your personal performance?

(It was) Alright! I think I can do better.

Do you think the team is gelling well together and the coach's instructions coming together?

Yes, I think it is looking well, looking good. I think we will get there soon.
