FC Pune City’s experienced defender Gouramangi Singh stressed the need for youngsters to enjoy themselves and not lose their joy for the game as the 2017 Reliance Foundation Young Champs Club Scouting Festival came to a close in Pune. Day 8 of the festival was conducted at St. Vincent's School in St. Vincent's Street Camp on Thursday with Gouramangi urging the young hopefuls to have fun.“From a personal point of view, I’d like to say [to the kids], just enjoy, go out there. They are just 13 years of age, so they don’t have to do too much. Just go out there and enjoy with your friends. Whenever you get a chance to play, just enjoy,” he said. The festival got underway at 1.30 pm with Piet Hubers, technical director of grassroots development; Mark Vaessen, head coach of the RFYC, and eight local coaches from Pune collaborating in the scouting process.Gouramangi also offered advice on what was required of an individual to make it as a professional footballer in India. “If they want to make it in the game eventually and pursue football as a career, they have to look after themselves, like what sort of a training programme or diet they need. They slowly need to figure that out, and of course there are coaches to help them with that.”“It’s amazing what ISL has been doing at grassroots level, I think it’s brilliant what’s going on and not many people get opportunities, so when you’re getting it just use it to the maximum because not everyone is as lucky as these kids here. You have such a platform where they all can come, enjoy and also you never know, someone is maybe watching you as well,” he added. With the RFYC Club Scouting Festival in all eight ISL franchise cities now complete, the chosen participants will be flown to Mumbai in May for the RFYC Final Selection Camp. At the end of the week-long selection camp, a few lucky hopefuls will be granted the prestigious RFYC scholarship and join the 41 young scholars from the previous two editions of the selection camp in Navi Mumbai.
