The Reliance Foundation Young Champs academy (RFYC) kicked off in May 2015 with the vision of creating not only the nation’s next generation of football stars, but also its future role models and leaders.

Supported entirely by the Reliance Foundation, RFYC is a one of a kind full time residential football academy offering all expenses paid scholarships to young talented footballers from across the country.

The academy is currently recognized by the All India Football Federation as the country's only 5 star residential academy under their 'Academy Accreditation Programme' making RFYC officially the best residential academy in the country (season 2018-19). The academy are also current champions of the AIFF Hero Sub Junior Youth League (2018-19).

Based in Navi Mumbai, the academy currently hosts 79 children from around the country playing across five age groups (U12, U13, U14, U15 & U17) with 22 full time staff dedicated to their development.

1. What is the Reliance Foundation Young Champs Academy (RFYC)?

Started in 2015, RFYC is a full time residential football academy offering scholarships to talented children from across the country. RFYC was the first football academy in the country to be accredited as a 4 star academy by the All India Football Federation under their academy accreditation programme.

2. Where is RFYC located?

The academy is located in Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai.

3. How can I apply to be part of RFYC?

We rely solely on our scouts and scouting network to look for our players. You can send in your request to us at however we give no assurance of applicants being scouted.

4. What is the selection criteria?

Each season the academy looks for children at the under 12 level. For the current season (2018), children born in 2006 were inducted into the academy. The 2019 intake will be for children born in 2007. Our scouts are on the lookout for technically gifted players who work hard and are hoping to make their careers as professional football players. We do not conduct open trials for the academy. The selection process is as follows –

Step 1: Once our scouts have seen a potential player several times playing in his local environment he is shortlisted for the next stage of the selection process.

Step 2: RFYC coaches travel to the different regions where players have already been scouted and conduct a one day training camp with the shortlisted players.

Step 3: A final group of shortlisted players from across the country (approx. 80) are invited to the academy for a week long selection camp.

5. When do the scouts look for talent?

Our scouts are engaged through the year (except monsoons) and are continually looking for talent. The regional training camps happen in March and April. The final selection camp in Mumbai is held in the first week of May.

6. I am over 13 years of age, am I eligible to be scouted for RFYC?

No unfortunately our intake each year is only at the under 12 level. For the next intake (2019) we will be looking for children born in 2007.

7. Can I enrol in the academy for a fee?

The academy is strictly talent based and we do not offer any pay and play programmes.

8. Are there any expenses if I am selected?

No. We offer all expenses paid scholarships which includes schooling, training, living expenses, travel expenses etc.

9. How long are the scholarships for?

We offer annual scholarships on a renewable basis up until the completion of class 12 as long as performance parameters and our expectations from the players and parents are met.

10. How many children are currently in the academy?

There are currently a total of 60 players in the academy playing across four age groups – U12, U13, U14 & U16.

11. Who takes care of the children?

We have a total of 16 full time staff who live at the academy with the children –

  • 8 coaches (1 goalkeeping coach)
  • 3 physios
  • 1 counsellor
  • 1 sports and performance psychologist
  • 2 team managers
  • 1 groundsman
  • 1 sports scientist
12. Does the academy include schooling?

Yes, at RFYC we give equal importance to education as well. The children are enrolled into the Reliance Foundation School which is a CBSE English medium school.

13. Do you have a programme for girls?

Unfortunately currently the academy only caters to boys.
