NorthEast United FC were held to a 2-2 draw by Chennaiyin FC in Match 90 of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday. Chennaiyin struck first with Masih Saighani but Martin Chaves scored the next two to give the Highlanders a 2-1 advantage. Lallianzuala Chhangte’s goal in added time, however, denied them a victory.

At the post-match press conference, NorthEast’s interim head coach Khalid Jamil summed up the contest and stated, “Most of the tactics clicked today but it was a very silly goal to concede. I think we deserved the three points. We tried, like in every game. We have to think positive for the next season.”

“The team played well today, especially, (Jose) Leudo, (Martin) Chaves, Ninthoi and Redeem (Tlang),” he added, when asked about the standout players for him on the night.

Speaking on what the team needs to work on to improve during the off season, Jamil noted, “We must work hard. Some players don’t have the right mentality. They do not get a chance to play but when they do, they don’t play well. We have only one solution for this problem, and that is to work hard. Not only with the team but also individually.”
