NorthEast United FC have completed their quota of seven international signings for the 2018-19 season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) by welcoming on board Uruguayan Federico Gallego. The 28-year-old joins Jose David Leudo and Augustine Okrah as another foreign option for head coach Eelco Schattorie in the middle of the park.

Gallego started his professional career at Sud América, a club from his native Uruguay, where he made 67 appearances over three years. Thereafter, he shifted base to Guatemala to play for Comunicaciones Fútbol Club. After spending a season there, he came back to his own country as a part of Liverpool’s squad and later signed for Boston River in 2018.

NorthEast will be his first tryst in Asia and he would be delighted to experience what India has to offer. Schattorie is building a squad studded with both young and experienced blood, trying to close all the loopholes that were present in the team in the 2017-18 season. Gallego will be a great addition to the Highlanders midfield, providing the head coach with ample options to choose from in a robust squad.
