Mumbai City FC held Kerala Blasters FC to an exciting 1-1 draw at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday. Kerala drew first blood through Messi Bouli but Amine Chermiti found the equaliser to bag a point for the Islanders. With it, Jorge Costa’s men go up to sixth with seven points from as many outings.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Mumbai head coach expressed his disappointed to have collected just a single point from each of their last three outings. “In the last three games, we finished with three points but in my opinion, we deserved to finish with nine. I think we did enough to have these nine points,” said Costa.

He then went on to assess the game, stating, “Something went wrong in the first-half. I will not say what, but it was an individual player who was not doing what he was supposed to do. But we played good. We created more chances. They scored from one bad mistake. We were not in the right place when they scored. Then we had the luck to equalise. We tried. We were so close to scoring one more goal.”

“I see the mistakes that we made. We made one mistake. As you can understand, in 95 minutes, it’s normal that you can make a mistake. What is not natural and normal is that every mistake that we are making, the opposition is scoring. We work a lot to create chances and we are not scoring. I’m calm and confident. I know what I’m doing every day. The players know what they are doing, they know what they need to do,” he added.

The Portuguese, however, reasserted his confidence in his squad despite the result and noted, “At the end, it’s one point, which is not enough. I cannot be happy with the point. But I believe in this team. I believe that game by game we are getting better. You can see that we are trying. We are playing good, with quality.”
