Duffy: One defeat doesn’t end the season

After having played in professional leagues in United Kingdom and India, Darryl Duffy joined FC Goa as a striker for Hero Indian Super League Season 2015. The Scotsman played his first match on Sunday and saw his team lose to Chennaiyin FC 4-0 at Fatorda’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

In an exclusive interview with indiansuperleague.com after the match, he spoke on the Gaurs’ performance. Here are the excerpts:

Q. What do you take away from this game?

A. [It was an] extremely disappointing day for us. From the beginning of the match, we didn’t do well and it’s a game [that] we [would] want to forget quickly and move on to the next match.

Q. In your first match, you get thrown right into the mix of things, what do you have to say about that?

A. [It] feels nice to make my debut, but these are not the circumstances that me or the team would have wanted. So overall, I’m very disappointed.

"It’s a long way to go and we’re going to keep fighting till the very last match."

Q. FC Goa seemed to switch off after the second goal – what do you attribute that to?

A. We were just trying to win at home. We were 2-0 down and were just trying to get back into the match, you know, get men forward. And when you do that, you take chances, you leave yourself open at the back and unfortunately, Chennai did enough to break us down.

Q. Would you like to convey something to the fans?

A. It’s only our first defeat. We’ve had a long unbeaten run and this is only our first home defeat. One defeat doesn’t end the season. It’s a long way to go and we’re going to keep fighting till the very last match.
