East Bengal FC head coach Stephen Constantine expressed his delight after winning yet another fixture away from home in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season. The Red and Golds won 1-3 against Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, in Jamshedpur, with Suhair Vadakkepeedika's goal and a brace from Cleiton Silva helping the Torch Bearers record their third win of the season.

Naorem Mahesh also impressed for East Bengal FC as he became the first Indian to record three assists in a single Hero ISL game. The result lifts EBFC to eighth place in the Hero ISL standings, who now have nine points in their kitty. 

The Englishman revealed he expected a tough game against Jamshedpur FC and was happy with the result, despite an away win. Constantine asserted his team are difficult to beat when playing well and he praised his players for putting out a collective team performance in Jamshedpur. 

Here are the excerpts from Constantine's post-match press conference:

In the last match, your team did not play a good game for 90 minutes, but in tonight’s game, they were pretty good. What are your thoughts on that?

We were expecting a very tough game from Jamshedpur FC, they are well set up with some good players, and we knew it was going to be a difficult game.

We controlled the second balls for most of the time, and that gave us the opportunity to play the way we can. If you look at the games we have won and when we play well for 90 minutes, we are a difficult team to beat, and the boys were absolutely fantastic tonight.

Do you think the penalty decision was a bit harsh on your team?

I do not talk about referees because, at the end of the season, you are going to get some decisions in your favour and sometimes you will not. It is a very difficult job for them, they have no time to make the decisions.

We would be super organised if at some point the VAR would come in and help the referees, because that is its purpose. I do not know if it was a penalty or not, and again, it was a physical game, both sides were giving their all, and that is what you ask of the team.

You scored two early goals, but Jamshedpur FC came calling right away. Do you think East Bengal FC were lucky enough to be 2-0 up at that point?

I do not think we were lucky, as we created enough chances. Jamshedpur FC created one or two clear cut chances at that point, but we played this kind of aggressive football, tried to get into the box, and we scored two goals exactly the same way last week. It is not an accident, so if we were lucky, then I will take that since we have been unlucky for most of the season rather than being lucky.

The performances of Naorem Mahesh Singh and Cleiton Silva, mostly in away games and even in home games, have been good. What are your thoughts on their performance?

Mahesh Singh, Cleiton Silva; Kamaljit Singh, and even Ivan Gonzalez were colossal at the back. Everyone played well, and we cannot win the game with just one or two players, so I will not single out any player.

Cleiton Silva scored two goals, he is a centre forward. Mahesh Singh is there to supply chances, and Suhair Vadakkepeedika was excellent until the time he was on the field. There was control in the midfield and on the ball.

Your team is winning almost every other away game this season. What are your thoughts on that?

I'm not concerned with how we win as long as we win. We got nine points away from home, so be it. We want to win at home because we do want to make our supporters happy, and it will come. We are good while on the road, is all I can say.
