Kerala Blasters FC midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad is set to auction his national team jersey with the proceeds being donated to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s Relief Fund to fight the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Sahal, who was Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19’s Emerging Player of the League and the All Indian Football Federation’s (AIFF) Emerging Player of the Year in 2019, wore the jersey during the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup joint Qualifiers last year.

The 23-year-old midfielder handed over the jersey to the Democratic Youth for India’s (DYFI) State Vice President during a ceremony held at his house. The auction will be held on June 18, 2020, through the Facebook page led by the DYFI Payyanur Block Committee.

He joins other Hero ISL stars who have contributed in their own way in the battle against COVID-19. CK Vineeth had earlier volunteered as a call center executive at COVID-19 helpline centers set up by the Kannur district administration and the Kerala state sports council. Striker Jeje Lalpekhlua donated blood, while defender Subhasish Bose handed out meals to the needy in his hometown of Subhasgram in West Bengal.
