Jamshedpur FC finished their Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 campaign with a disappointing 5-0 loss to FC Goa at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Wednesday. The loss means Jamshedpur end the season on 18 points - their lowest-ever tally in the competition since they joined the Hero ISL back in 2017.

At the post-match press conference, Jamshedpur head coach Antonio Iriondo gave his opinion on the loss and said, “The first 60 to 70 minutes we were playing better than the other team and creating chances. Individually, Goa have very good players. After the second goal, they were better than us. They have very good individual players and they show it every time they have a chance.”

Speaking about Jamshedpur’s dip in form over the last few months, the Spaniard said, “I think someone has to be responsible for this. Maybe the easiest way is to point to the staff and the coach. We need to work carefully to decipher what has been the problem.”

On starting Karan Amin, Iriondo said, “We have tried different full backs this season, so probably we thought that Karan wasn’t so physically as good as the other players. But he understands the game that is why we played him. He wasn’t very different from the other full backs. We have been working with a smaller group of players which has made it tougher.”

He also backed his decision to use Sumeet Passi, primarily a striker, as a left back and stated, “Many people were surprised that we used a forward as a full-back, but he was very good. He is probably the best one we have. Playing a forward as a full back is something I would not generally do but circumstances called for it. It’s not only about experiment. When something isn’t working, we have to try and fix it. We have been trying to fix some positions we were having problems with.”
