Mumbai City FC have acquired the services of Serbian defender Marko Klisura on a one-year deal for the 2018-19 season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). He now joins the likes of Lucian Goian and Matias Mirabaje as the club’s foreign players for the upcoming season.

The 25-year-old has played almost all his professional career in Serbia, after graduating from the ranks of FK Vojvodina. He featured for a number of clubs in his home country, namely FK Spartak Subotica and OFK Bačka Palanka, amongst others, and has a lot of Serbian SuperLiga experience behind him.

Before shifting base to Mumbai, Klisura helped his former club FK Buxoro in finishing sixth in the Uzbekistan Super League. He also made his international debut in January 2017, coming in as a substitute in a friendly match against the USA.

The official club press release included the Islanders’ new head coach, Jorge Costa’s comments, who was delighted with the new signing. He said, “I’m extremely happy to welcome Marko to Mumbai City FC. He’s a strong character on the pitch and can play a number of roles, depending on the situations. And with the experience Marko brings in, I’m confident he can impact our season in a positive way.”

Klisura was excited as well with this new stage in his career and shared, “This is a new, exciting challenge for me in my career. I’ve heard a lot about the club, the Indian Super League and the city of Mumbai as well. A few Serbians have come to this league before and have left their mark. I cannot wait to get on with the training and try and do the same”
