Mumbai City FC succumbed to their sixth defeat of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 when Jamshedpur FC pipped them 2 – 1 at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday. The Islanders were on the backfoot as a result of Sanju Pradhan’s own goal but hit back through Everton Santos. However, Bikash Jairu struck late on to bag all three points for the league debutants. The loss severely dents Mumbai’s hopes of making the playoffs and speaking to indiansuperleague.com post the setback was the Islanders’ midfielder Sahil Tavora. Here are the excerpts.

What do you think went wrong tonight?

I think it was one of those days where we created a lot of chances and in the first and second half as well. We had various chances to score and I thought we were unlucky in front of the goal, a couple off the posts and some good saves by their keeper in the first and second half. So, it was one of those days where we just didn’t take our chances and they had a couple of chances where they scored and that’s football.

Thoughts on your performance?

Not just me, I think we had a lot of good performances all around in the team. We fought right till the end but the timing of their goal, their first goal towards the end of the first half and then they got one in the end when we were pushing really hard for the winner. Apart from myself, we had a lot of good performances all around. It’s hard to take, but we have to keep fighting and we go on to the next one now.

It’s the third straight loss at home, is it a cause for concern?

Not really, we had a great game last game away from home and like you said we had three home losses which is not the best situation, but I think besides the Bengaluru game I think in the other two games we really deserved more. Today’s game and the game against Kerala we deserved more. Especially today, we had loads of chances to not win just one goal, but two goals but the ball just didn’t seem to go into the back of the net. It’s a tough one, but we’ll keep training hard, keep fighting, keep fighting for the top four.

Message for the fans ahead of the Maharashtra Derby?

The fans have been very good, they’ve always backed us in our home games. I’m sure they’ll be the same in the next. Just a message to them – keep supporting us. We still have a chance to make the playoffs, we’ll keep fighting. I think if you ask the fans, they saw nothing but 100% given by each of us on the pitch today and in the Maharashtra Derby against Pune, they should expect nothing less. We’ll fight against a very good Pune side. We want to get the three points!
