Mumbai City FC’s hopes of making the playoffs for the second successive season were left in tatters as a rampant Delhi Dynamos FC routed them 5 – 1 in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday. The night saw five different scorers finding the back of the net for the Lions, while the Islanders’ sole goal was scored by Everton Santos. It was a bad day in the office for the Mumbai defence and none would feel harder done by than their central defender and skipper Lucian Goian, who had given his best throughout. The Romanian spoke to indiansuperleague.com post the match and shared his thoughts regarding the same. Here are the excerpts.

Your thoughts on the match?
What can you say when you lose like we lost today? There is nothing to say. We have to keep our heads up and learn from the mistakes we have made this season. Next season, we have to be much better.

Do you think Delhi played more freely because they had nothing to lose?
They had nothing to gain, but we also had nothing to lose. We had to show more fighting spirit and look different tonight, but unfortunately we didn’t show that fighting spirit and I think we didn’t deserve to win this evening. This is the reality. It hurts but this is the reality.

According to you, what went wrong tonight?
I think we started the game very softly. We weren’t focused, we conceded the goal and it was difficult. In the first half, we had some chances, but we didn’t score. After we scored, we were 1-1 but we didn’t have the guts to go for it and push for a win. And you saw what happened after that.
