Two-time Hero ISL champions ATK have completed the signing of midfielder Javier Hernandez from Polish club Cracovia Krakow. The Spaniard has also played for Real Madrid Castilla in the past.

Born in Salamanca in Spain, Hernandez came up through the ranks at local club UD Salamanca Yo before joining the Real Madrid youth system. He went on to make 34 appearances for the Los Blancos' reserves and also played for Spain's U-19 team during the period.

After representing a host of Spanish clubs, Hernandez joined Romanian club Poli Timisoara and followed it up with stints at Poland for Gornik Leczna. He joined Azerbaijani club FK Qabala in 2017 and played in the second round of UEFA Europa League Qualifiers for the side.

He then joined Cracovia and played 65 times in the Ekstraklasa (Polish top division) over two seasons, raking up 15 goals and 9 assists. This will be the Spaniard's first venture outside Europe.

Though primarily a central attacking midfielder, Hernandez has the ability to seamlessly fit into any position at the middle of the park and will give ATK head coach Antonio Lopez Habas a tremendous amount of tactical flexibility when setting up his team for the 2019-20 campaign.

When asked about the new recruit, Habas said: "I am delighted with the signing of Javi Hernández. He adds balance and versatility to the team. He is experienced and has played in different conditions, which will be a big advantage for ATK.”

Hernandez also shared his excitement: "ATK is a two-time champion and my goal is to make sure the Cup returns to us again. I will do my best to make the team win and looking forward to a good season with the squad.”

ATK have already secured the services of top foreign recruits like Roy Krishna, David Williams, Dario Vidosic, Carl McHugh, Agustin Garcia Iniguez and Javi's addition to the list is a clear signal of intent from the Kolkata-based side for the upcoming campaign.
