Chennaiyin FC will play their final home match of the season when they entertain Jamshedpur at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. The Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2017-18 champions have had a torrid title defence this season and currently sit in the bottom position with just eight points. This encounter gives them the opportunity to end the season on a good note in front of their home support.

At the pre-match press conference, head coach of Chennaiyin FC, John Gregory shared his views on the upcoming match. "It is our last game at home. I think everybody is very positive in the camp. We had a bad result last week and it seems like an extra effort is being made by everyone on the training ground. I have noticed a real positive attitude around the place. The players have got a duty to complete the two Hero ISL games. We can still have a significant outcome on the top four. We have got a duty to everybody to do our very best. We have two matches left against two quality teams, so I am looking forward to it," he said.

Gregory also shed light on how he could alter his squad to find the best possible line-up in time for their impending AFC Cup qualifier in March. "We are without Gregory Nelson tomorrow, who is suspended. (Otherwise) We have got everyone really with one eye on AFC. Everybody wants to be involved and play in that competition. If we can overcome Colombo over two legs, it is a great chance for our boys to be involved in six more matches. It can wipe the slate clean after a disappointing Hero ISL season. It gives everyone a chance to start from scratch," Gregory stated.

When asked what he would do differently for the season, if given a second chance, Gregory replied, "All of it. There were a lot of times last season when I could have maybe chosen a different team. But fortunately, things worked out okay. Last year was built on such a strong defence. We haven’t had that this season. That has been probably an area which I should have strengthened this time. But it is what it is. Sometimes, you don’t get a second chance to recover. But I have to take it on the chin and just deal with it in the best way I can."

With the season drawing to a close, The Englishman also took the opportunity to thank the fans for their undying support through thick and thin. "There is pressure on us tomorrow to do everything we can to get three points. So, we have to be at our best. It is also a chance for me personally to thank the fans for what they have done for us and me. I was overwhelmed with the reception I got at the airport when I came in 2017. Since then, they have stuck with us all the way through. Even this year, they have been exceptionally loyal to the club and to the players and to me in particular. I shall miss them. Tomorrow gives me a chance to thank them and say goodbye to them," he concluded.
