Delhi Dynamos FC go into their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2018-19 clash against Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Wednesday as the only team yet to win a match this season. The Dynamos have had a terrible time in the league so far and are virtually out of the playoff race. To add to their misery, visiting teams haven’t found it easy going at the JRD Tata Sports Complex with no side managing to beat Jamshedpur in their own backyard so far.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the Dynamos boss Josep Gombau urged his players to get the monkey of their first win off their backs. “We came here and worked hard. And in the last games, we have been playing well but are not getting results. And tomorrow we come here with full concentration because we know Jamshedpur has a very good squad and have a very good team with a very good coach. Also, we have a good mentality and I think tomorrow we can do a very good game,” Gombau said.

The Spaniard was also reluctant to blame fatigue as the cause for his team’s dismal record in the league so far. He reminded his players that they still had a lot to play for after the recommencement of the league following the winter break. “No, I don’t think so (fatigue). We have another training session to play a good game. We have a lot of things to work on moving forward. Every single game that we have played, we have tried to play a good game and tried to win as many games as we can. Also, we are developing very young players who will be very good players for us. After that, we also have a cup ... Until we have hope and determination, we will keep going,” Gombau insisted.

The Dynamos have shown flashes of what they are trying to achieve on the pitch but have found it difficult to do so consistently. Gombau believes it’s his team’s lack of ruthlessness that’s hindering their success. “I think when you see the game, we miss so many chances. We are winning a lot of the parts in the games. I think we are doing very well in terms of creating chances, but we are not taking them,” the Spaniard bemoaned.

When asked about his plans for the upcoming transfer window, Gombau said, “What we are doing now is concentrating on these two games. We have a game here tomorrow and after that on Saturday in Chennaiyin. And after that will be the time to think and to see what we can do to improve the team. But in this moment, our whole concentration is on these two games. We have two games in four days and we have a lot to try and finish the year on a winning note.”

Finally, Gombau looked forward to the match in Jamshedpur by remembering the last match between the two sides. “Tomorrow’s game will be an equal game. I think the last time we played against them, it was a very good game because both teams tried to attack. Both teams tried to have the ball. Tomorrow I expect a game that will be attacking and will be a good game for the people who will come to the stadium,” he added.
