Jamshedpur FC came from behind to register a narrow 2-1 win over Delhi Dynamos FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Wednesday.

The win helped the Miners break into the top four of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) table with 19 points from 12 matches. Delhi, on the other hand, remained rooted to the bottom with four points from 11 outings. The Lions are still winless this season.

The away team raced out of the blocks and almost took the lead on the first minute. Adria Carmona's long ranger beat Subrata Paul in the Jamshedpur goal, only to rattle the crossbar.

Minutes later, Chhangte carved out an opportunity for himself. The Delhi no. 7 beat Tiri and Pratik Chowdhary with his raw pace and managed to take a crack at goal. Luckily for Jamshedpur, his effort wasn't on target.

Delhi were dealt an early blow when Carmona had to go off after suffering a muscle injury on the 14th minute. The Lions, however, continued to put pressure on the Jamshedpur defence and reaped the reward on the 24-minute mark. The ball fell to Chhangte inside the box after the Jamshedpur defence failed to deal with a seemingly harmless cross from Rene Mihelic. The winger chested the ball down and slotted it inside the far post for the first goal of the match.

The Lions have been guilty of wasting their advantage this season time and again, and it was on display yet again. Their lead lasted for just five minutes before Tim Cahill restored parity with a trademark header from Carlos Calvo's cross.

Delhi came close to regaining their lead on the 38th minute of the match. Mihelic's teasing cross just needed to be directed towards goal, but Andrija Kaludjerovic horribly misjudged the pass and failed to get a telling contact.

The referee blew the half-time whistle with the scores even at 1-1.

Both teams started the second-half with a higher tempo and engineered some dangerous half chances on either end. On the 61st minute, one such half chance was converted into the third goal of the match. The Delhi defence failed to clear their lines properly from a corner and the ball dropped for Farukh Choudhary on the edge of the box. The young striker’s bullet of a shot ended up in the top corner and made the score 2-1 in favour of the home team. 

Delhi threw men forward in search of the equaliser and were unlucky not to have won a penalty. The referee missed Robin Gurung’s handball inside the Jamshedpur box and the home team was let off the hook.

With five minutes left for regulation time, Kludjerovic tested Subrata with a powerful shot, but the veteran goalkeeper was up to the challenge as he parried it away.

The home team held on to secure the narrow win.

Jamshedpur FC captain Tiri was a rock at the back for his team throughout the match. His composure and physical presence in the backline helped his team see off sustained periods of pressure from Delhi. He is the Hero of the Match.

This was Jamshedpur’s final match ahead of the winter break. Delhi, however, will be in action against Chennaiyin FC on December 15.
