India U-23 head coach, Derrick Pereira, on Friday, named a 23-man squad which will travel to Qatar for a friendly on March 11. The match will be an important part of the Indian U-23 team's bid to prepare for the upcoming AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers, to be held in Uzbekistan from March 22. The friendly will Pereira's first match in charge and presents him with the perfect opportunity to tinker with his squad and test out the players.

The shortlist was drawn up from an initial 38-member squad chosen for the India U-23 camp, which began on March 3. FC Pune City's Ashique Kuruniyan was a part of the initial 38-man list but has been ruled out due to an injury.

From the Hero ISL rosters, the most notable inclusions were Kerala Blasters FC's Dheeraj Singh and Sahal Abdul Samad, Delhi Dynamos FC's Lallianzuala Chhangte, Daniel Lalhlimpuia and Vinit Rai, ATK's Komal Thatal, Jamshedpur FC's Jerry Mawhmingthanga and FC Pune City's Sarthak Golui.

There will be a special focus on Sahal, considering his terrific form for Kerala Blasters over the course of the season. The youngster even registered his first Hero ISL goal against Chennaiyin in February. Delhi's young forward Daniel has also been in fine form of late and scored four goals in Hero ISL 2018-19.
