ATK have signed Spanish winger Edu Garcia from Chinese outfit Zhejiang Greentown FC to bolster their attack for the second half of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2018-19 campaign.

Garcia isn't new to the Hero ISL and has played in 14 matches for Bengaluru FC in the 2017-18 season. He scored two goals and provided five assists during his stint with the club. Incidentally, the Spaniard scored Bengaluru's first-ever Hero ISL goal in the Blues' very first match against Mumbai City FC last season.

Garcia's inclusion will be a big boost for an ATK side, who have struggled to score goals this season. Steve Coppell's men have hit the back of the net only on 10 occasions this season - the least number of goals scored by any team so far. Edu a versatile player can play as a winger on both sides and is known for creating chances down the flanks.

Coppell will hope Garcia's addition will help the team become more ruthless in the opposition third as they get ready to make a final push for a playoff spot once the league resumes after the winter break. ATK have 16 points from 12 matches so far and are four points behind fourth-placed NorthEast United FC.

Garcia will be Coppell's second signing in the winter transfer window. The two-time champions have already secured the services of India international Pritam Kotal from Delhi Dynamos FC for a transfer fee of Rs 20 lakh.

Speaking about the new inclusions, Coppell said, “The additions made to the squad are positive and we are quite excited to bring the new players on board. We hope that they can deliver and excite the fans through their performances on the pitch. We will begin training after the international break and assess how soon they can be integrated to our main squad. We look forward to a bright start in 2019.”
