ATK put an end to their winless run of eight games when they edged Northeast United FC 1 – 0 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 on Sunday. The win meant ATK avoided a last-place finish and they had their recently appointed caretaker coach Robbie Keane to thank for that. The Irishman bagged his sixth goal of the season and spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the match. Here are the excerpts.

Your thoughts on your Hero ISL experience?

It’s been an experience to say the least. Obviously, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of changes. I have enjoyed (it). It’s been different of course but it has been an experience and it was the last game of the season, we got a win and (will) take the confidence into the Super Cup.

How was your first game as caretaker coach?

Most importantly, it’s a win for the team, it’s not about any individual. The point was to get a win obviously and take the three points as I mentioned before, and we need to get the momentum going into the Round of 16 and hopefully get a result there to get us into the Super Cup.

Any thoughts on the match?

Yes, credit to the lads. They defended very well, were very compact. Of course, we made some silly mistakes at times. They could have scored maybe a couple from them but apart from that, in the wide areas, the lads were stopping the crosses, putting their bodies on the line for each other and on that respect, it was very good.
