The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) will be back in business following the conclusion of the first international break of the 2018-19 season, as Delhi Dynamos FC will serve hosts to ATK at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Kolkata-based side will be eager to claim maximum points after two consecutive defeats, which finds them languishing at the bottom of the points table.
Ahead of the match, indiansuperleague.com caught up with ATK centre-back Gerson Vieira, who seems to be enjoying his stint with the new club, thanks to the amazing city and Steve Coppell’s style of play. Here are the excerpts:

How are you adapting to the new club and new city?

I’m actually enjoying a lot. A big part of it is ATK and living in Kolkata. The city is just amazing, also the club. All of them have treated me just perfect and I can share with you how glad I am.

Thoughts on Steve Coppell and his style of football.

I’m enjoying his style a lot. Actually, it’s a strong way to play football and I’m loving it. We are trying to understand the concept and how to manage the ball, how to do the things, but he’s just amazing. I’m enjoying a lot, not just me but all of the players, we are enjoying it. But we have to understand what he’s trying to do and do our best, push ourselves to achieve our goals.

What do you think went wrong in the first two games?

In my opinion, we were unlucky, but also, we didn’t play our best then. I think we are working hard during the training sessions, always talking to each other to solve the problems that appear during the match and I think we are stronger now and we can get this victory.

Do you think it takes a couple of matches for the team to gel?

Yes, I think. But the most important thing for me is the players wish, like we have to try and we have to push ourselves. In Portuguese we say, we have to use our heart while we are playing. That’s the important concept. The instructions that Mr.Coppell is providing us is just amazing. Now we have to show our skills inside the pitch and do our best.

Thoughts on the match against Delhi Dynamos?

The match will be very difficult in my opinion. They have a good team, we know that, but we accept the challenge. We are here to try and get the victory and playing here is just amazing. This stadium is beautiful and the crowd is also nice. It’s a pleasure to be here defending our colours and you know, it’s always tough, life is tough! We have to work hard and do our best, as I always say.
