The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) may have come to a conclusion but the thirst for silverware between the clubs is very much alive after Chennaiyin FC emerged as winners of the recently concluded season. Eight Hero ISL teams will be eyeing a trophy to finish their season on a high but in the end, only one side will have the honour of being named the inaugural winners of the Hero Super Cup. Here we assess their chances of winning the trophy.

Chennaiyin FC

Having already clinched the Hero ISL trophy, there is no doubt that the Marina Machans will be looking to end their season on a high with a league and cup double. Their top-scorer from the league Jeje Lalpekhlua will be leading the charge, while the likes of Anirudh Thapa and Dhanpal Ganesh offer support from midfield, as the two-time champions look for their second trophy in as many months.

Bengaluru FC

Gutted after their loss in the final of Hero ISL 2017-18 against Chennaiyin, Bengaluru will be desperate to set the record straight. The Blues will have most of their squad intact from the Hero ISL and will be looking to ensure that they make amends and clinch a trophy by going all the way to the final, especially with the like of Miku and Sunil Chhetri – who combined for 29 goals in the last Hero ISL season – spearheading the attack.

FC Goa

FC Goa is another side that’ll be desperate for a trophy after a highly impressive Hero ISL 2017-18 campaign that saw them finish as the highest scoring side in the league. The Gaurs have kept most of their squad together after the fourth edition of the Hero ISL and will be hoping that their Spanish Armada live up to the billing in big matches.

FC Pune City

Freshly off the back of their most successful Hero ISL season, FC Pune City will be looking to go one step further. With strikers like Emiliano Alfaro and Marcelinho in the squad, there is no doubt that the Stallions will be one of the favourites to lift the inaugural Hero Super Cup if they can brush aside the rest of the competition with their potent strike force.

Jamshedpur FC

One of the more defensively resolute sides in the tournament, Jamshedpur will be targeting to be more clinical in the final third in the inaugural Hero Super Cup. Known for their defensive solidity, the men of steel were strong at the back in their debut Hero ISL season. However, they’ll need to be sharper in attack if they want silverware in their debut campaign.

Kerala Blasters FC

The Blasters will be disappointed after failing to live up to expectations in the fourth edition of the Hero ISL. The men in yellow have a pretty formidable line-up but they’ll need to deliver the goods on the pitch when it matters the most if they’re to do away with their label of being the nearly men of the league.

Mumbai City FC

After a hard-fought fixture in the pre-quarter final that required them to go to extra-time, the Islanders will be looking for better luck in the Hero Super Cup. A well-oiled united, Mumbai will be pinning their hopes of success on the likes of Achille Emana, Thiago Santos, Everton Santos and Balwant Singh, to guide them to domestic glory.

ATK

The two-time Hero ISL champions had a woeful campaign in Hero ISL and will be looking to set things straight in the domestic cup. The Kolkata-based outfit have the likes of Robbie Keane in their squad and have also recruited Kalu Uche, who was Delhi Dynamos FC’s top-scorer with 13 goals in Hero ISL 2017-18, to bolster their chances.
