After mutually parting ways with Kerala Blasters FC in May, Hero Indian Super League’s (Hero ISL) first-ever Emerging Player of the League, Sandesh Jhingan is still yet to decide on his future. With speculation rife about his next destination and coaches suggesting that he moves to a foreign league, Jhingan shared his delight over the increased interest in Indian football transfers in an interview with Times of India.

“I am surprised with these (transfer speculation) developments. It makes you feel good as a footballer and it’s possibly a reward for what I have done on the field for the last eight years. I am also glad that there is so much of interest surrounding transfers in Indian football,” the 27-year-old defender said.

The experienced defender, who missed out on the entirety of last season due to an injury, spoke about the difficulty that comes with him choosing his next challenge. “It’s not easy (to choose). When I go to a club, I am a person who puts his heart and soul into everything. I become a part of everything the club represents. I want to get myself involved totally,” Jhingan said.

Having made 76 appearances for Kerala Blasters across five Hero ISL seasons, Jhingan established himself not only as a firm fan-favourite, but also a leader in the dressing room. However, the Indian international still believes that he is far from the finished product and hopes to continue his development at whichever new club he chooses to join.

“I want to be sure about everything and that explains the delay (with me choosing my new club). I want to see the project; want to see myself grow as a footballer. I am 27 now, and my peak is still ahead of me. At this stage of my career, when I am certain to be at my best, I need to go to a place where the coach will help me become a better version (of myself),” Jhingan opined.
