Kerala Blasters FC and Mark Sifneos have parted ways halfway into the 2017-18 season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). The Dutchman opened the account for the Blasters and later also went on to score the 100th goal of the season too.

Sifneos made 12 appearances for the Kochi side and netted four times while also bagging an assist, thus underlining his credentials as a clinical finisher and a goal-poacher.

After the Blasters had failed to score in their opening two fixtures against ATK and Jamshedpur FC, it was the youngster who finally broke the jinx with his strike against Mumbai City FC. With 14 minutes on the clock, Sifneos made the most of a Rino Anto cross as he side-footed the ball into the back of the net past a hapless Amrinder Singh in the Mumbai goal. He would score in consecutive fixtures, this time controlling Jackichand Singh’s cross to fire home his side’s opener against FC Goa.

The Dutchman scored his third goal of the campaign against FC Pune City, a goal that was also the 100th of the season. Here, Sifneos made the most of a Courage Pekuson cross to draw parity for his side against their opponents.

While all his goals failed to get the Blasters a win, it was his assist for Iain Hume that helped the Kochi side pocket three points against Delhi Dynamos FC.

Kerala Blasters confirmed Sifneos’ departure through a statement issued on Tuesday, January 23: “Kerala Blasters and Mark Sifneos have mutually agreed to part ways. We are grateful for all his contributions to the club. The club would also like to wish him well for the future,” the statement read.
