With Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 now just four games away from its conclusion, it’s safe to say that all 10 clubs have played their part in what’s been an exhilarating season to say the least. New-comers Bengaluru FC have made their mark with a top of the table finish, while FC Pune City qualified for their maiden semis appearance, as ATK missed out on a final four berth for the first time in their history. There have, in fact, been numerous firsts this campaign and here we have a look at some of the stats that went on to define the clubs’ season.

Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru FC are the first side in Hero ISL history to beat all other sides in the league. Their rampant form saw them pick up a total of 13 wins from their 18 league stage games. In doing so, they recorded the most number of wins in a single Hero ISL season.

Chennaiyin FC

Not a team renowned for their star players, if there ever were a team that relied on all 11 individuals on the pitch equally, it had to be Chennaiyin. They have had 11 different scorers find the back of the net for them this season, which is the most by any side. Their defenders have also netted on six occasions this season – the most by defenders of all sides.

FC Goa

Having managed to keep just two clean sheets over the course of the entire league stage, it’s of little surprise that FC Goa had to finish the league phase as the highest scorers with 42 goals to cement a semis spot. They are the only side to have two players that have scored more than 10 goals in a single ISL season.

FC Pune City

Defensive stability has been the key to FC Pune City making their first ever semi-final appearance in the Hero ISL. They have conceded 21 times this season, six of which have come away from home – the fewest conceded by a side on their travels in Hero ISL 2017-18.

Jamshedpur FC

Jamshedpur FC have nothing to be ashamed of after narrowly missing out on the semis with a fifth placed finish. They had one of the meanest backlines in the league with seven clean sheets and faced the fewest shots (166), while also averaging ball possession of 42% - the least by any side.

Kerala Blasters FC

Even though Kerala Blasters FC managed their highest tally of away wins in a season (4), the fact that they were involved in the maximum number of draws (7), eventually went on to become their undoing as they finished sixth.

Mumbai City FC

After making their first-ever semi-final appearance under the tutelage of Alexandre Guimaraes in Hero ISL 2016, the Costa Rican and the Islanders had to deal with the disappointment of missing out on the top four this year. Their leaky defence that was breached 29 times played a major role, especially when considering that they conceded just eight times in the league stage of the previous campaign. Mumbai also recorded the most offsides this season.

Delhi Dynamos FC

Another semi-finalist from Hero ISL 2016 that didn’t make the final four this time around were Delhi Dynamos FC. The Dynamos conceded a staggering 37 goals – the most in the league and managed to register the maximum number of crosses (295) as well.

ATK

Outgoing champions ATK failed to finish in the top four for the first time this season having tasted defeat 10 times, which is equal to their tally of losses in the league stages of the past three seasons combined.

NorthEast United FC

NorthEast United FC’s search of a semis berth continue as they finished rock-bottom in the league standings having lost the most matches by a side in a single season (13). Their shyness in front of goal meant that they found the back of the net in only six of their 18 matches this season.
