Jamshedpur FC’s hopes of grabbing the last Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 semi-final berth were dashed when they lost 3-0 to FC Goa at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Sunday. The host’s experienced custodian Subrata Paul was shown a straight red card early on in the game, which gave the Gaurs a man-advantage and enough opportunities to breach their resolute defence. After playing their last fixture of the season, Jamshedpur’s Brazilian midfielder Wellington Priori spoke to indiansuperleague.com regarding the disappointing outcome. Here are the excerpts.

Your thoughts on today’s game?

It’s football. Unfortunately, we had one red card in the first 15 or 20 minutes. And I guess, teams like FC Goa are difficult to play with 11 players, so you can imagine it with 10. But I think, we did a good job. We kept possession but it happens. Of course, we’re disappointed but this team did a good job. It was a team that existed just for five months and we’re fighting for the semi-finals. So the only thing I can say that I’m proud of the team. I’m really proud of the coach, staff and everyone involved in this project.

Do you feel you didn’t get the fair chance because of the early red card?

I think, even with one man less, we gave our best. We gave our maximum to try to keep the possession, try to keep the balance of the team and we kept fighting. Unfortunately, we lost the game, but we did a great job.
