Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18’s last match week of 2017 concluded on New Year’s Eve, and brought with it plenty of thrills and spills. There were two occasions when a team scored four or more goals in the final match week of the year as two southern outfits drew the curtains on 2017 in an action-packed encounter. Mumbai and Delhi played a half with 10 men each and the week also saw another hat-trick being scored. Here are the results of the week gone by, and some of the key talking points.

Match 33: Jamshedpur FC 0 – 1 Chennaiyin FC (Match Report)

Match 34: Mumbai City FC 4 – 0 Delhi Dynamos FC (Match Report)

Match 35: FC Pune City 5 – 0 NorthEast United FC (Match Report)

Match 36: Kerala Blasters FC 1 - 3 Bengaluru FC (Match Report)

Chennai have best points tally in history of the league: Jeje Lalpekhlua’s penalty secured a 1 – 0 win for Chennaiyin FC over Jamshedpur FC, and it meant that Chennai ended the year as table-toppers. It also meant that they have a point tally of 16 after eight matches, which is the highest ever in the league’s history after eight games. Jamshedpur also missed their second penalty of the campaign when Kervens Belfort had his spot-kick saved by Karanjit Singh.

Lions tamed for the sixth time in a row: Mumbai City FC showed no mercy as they took apart Delhi Dynamos FC in a 4 – 0 victory at the Mumbai Football Arena. Red cards to Sehnaj Singh of the Islanders and Matias Mirabaje of the Dynamos reduced both sides to 10 men but it hardly made a difference as Mumbai won two in a row for the first time this season. Lucian Goian, Everton Santos, Thiago Santos and Balwant Singh struck to hand the visitors their sixth consecutive loss of the campaign, which is a record.

Marcelinho scores season’s third hattrick: FC Pune City were at their deadly best as they scored five times against NorthEast United FC, a result which condemned the Highlanders to their fourth loss of the season. Marcelinho scored his second hat-trick of ISL, and his first this season as Ashique Kuruniyan’s debut goal and Adil Khan’s third of the season ensured a rout. This was the third hat-trick of the season following Ferran Corominas’ back-to-back hat-tricks.

Kerala suffer first home loss of the season: The year ended in disappointment for the passionate Kerala fans as Bengaluru FC beat them 3 – 1 in Kochi. A brace for Miku also means that he joins Corominas at the top of the goal-scoring charts as the Blasters tasted defeat on home soil for the first time this season.

The first match-week of 2018 kicks off on January 3 when defending champions ATK play host to FC Goa at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
