Click here to view FC Pune City’s Scouting Festival photo galleryThe Reliance Foundation Young Champs selections moved to the Hero Indian Super League franchise cities of Chennai and Pune on Saturday as Chennaiyin FC and FC Pune City hosted their Club Scouting Festivals at JLNS, Periyamet in Chennai and St. Vincent High School camp in Pune respectively. Registrations began at 8:15 am in Chennai and 9 am in Pune.The youngsters at FC Pune City’s Scouting Festival were put through their drills under the watchful eyes of Piet Hubers, technical director of the Grassroots Development Programme of the Hero ISL, and 12 local FC Pune City coaches. The Chennaiyin FC Scouting Festival saw the participants being put through their paces by Mark Vaessen, head coach of the Reliance Foundation Young Champs, Jose Barreto, assistant coach of the Reliance Foundation Young Champs, and other local coaches from Chennaiyin FC. There are a good number of talented boys here. Players from Chennai are very fast, quick players with good skills,” said Barreto about Chennaiyin FC’s Scouting Festival that saw 25 kids from nine districts across Tamil Nadu selected.Participants from both venues were tested through the Cruyff turn, scissors and ball control. Their ball retention ability was also evaluated by the coaches through a possession play-based drill, which aimed at keeping the ball for as long as possible. Both Scouting Festivals concluded with the participants pitted against one another in high intensity 4-v-4 matches as well as 7-v-7 games that tested their game play and composure with the ball at their feet in real match situations. Both venues also saw the participants being accompanied by their guardians who were proud to have their children involved with the Reliance Foundation Young Champs programme.“Five-six years down the line, we'll have some great footballers coming through the Reliance Foundation Young Champs programme. It's a proud matter for me to have my son involved here. My kid has learnt a lot here,” said a father at FC Pune City’s Scouting Festival.
