Gerson Vieira has made 11 appearances for Mumbai City FC in Hero Indian Super League 2016 and will be hoping to be involved in their last game of the league stage when they host Delhi Dynamos FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday. The Brazilian defender has shown his versatility in Mumbai’s backline and has completed eight successful tackles, 11 blocks, 14 interceptions and 31 clearances. Vieira has completed two key passes and is comfortable on the ball, boasting a 72% passing accuracy. The 24-year-old spoke exclusively to indiansuperleague.com ahead of the clash against Delhi. Here are the excerpts from the interview. What do you think about Mumbai’s all-round display so far?Actually, I am very happy as we are playing very well and I hope we can continue the hard work. After playing in South America for quite some time, how would you explain your experience in the ISL?Actually, I am very surprised as the quality of football is high and it has been a great experience for me.You were nicknamed ‘the president’ for the way you captained the Brazil Under-17 team, so how are you helping the Indian players with your leadership qualities?I always try to say good words and compliment them and make them more confident, help them make some adjustments in positions and how they have to move. I always encourage my teammates to improve their performance.Three clean sheets in three games now, so how have the preparations been for the encounter against Delhi? Our preparations are more mental than physical. We just have got to keep ourselves strong and we need to encourage each other as we know the next match will be difficult and we have got to be on the same path. You have played your part in Mumbai’s midfield and defence as well, so how are you planning to use this positional versatility to your advantage further in the league?I hope I can live up to my head coach and teammates’ expectations. Playing in midfield or defence is not a problem and the most important thing for me is to help Mumbai City achieve their goals.
